Left: Penrose Cube, Right: Brickermod Penrose Cube |
The "Penrose Cube" is a classic Shape and Stickermod. With some extra pieces, the Brickermod comes close to the original look.
The Penrose modification joins three pairs of adjacent faces by rounding the edge cubies where the two faces meet. The resulting three faces are usually colored white, red and blue with black body, or black, red and blue with white body.
The Penrose modification creates two different situations of missing determination. There are three edge pieces for which the orientation is not determined. In addition to that, there are three triplets of edge pieces having the same color arrangement. This means that the placement of the individual edge pieces of each set is not determined.
At first glance, it looks like the geometry of the six curved two-color corner pieces enables correct placecment and orientation. However, the two colors alone still determine placement and orientation for these edge pieces. This means that a regular cube with "Penrose Colors" has the same level of determination as a curved Penrose design. Without the curvature, these six corner pieces have colors a+a+b, which means that the corner piece belongs at a spot where two faces of color a meet, pointing with the single-color face towards a face with color b.
The Brickermod Penrose Cube is a little more demanding:

Brickermod Penrose Stripes Cube |
This is a variation of the Classic "Penrose Cube". The original Penrose Cube has three sets of three identical edge pieces, plus three edge pieces where the orientation is not determined.
The Penrose Stripes Cube uses two 1×2 Tiles on each cubie face, instead of single 2×2 Tiles. This creates a stripe pattern making all edge pieces distinct.
If you take a closer look at the three Red/Blue edge pieces, you can see that the alignment of the stripe pattern compared to the edge line is different:
The Brickermod Penrose Stripes Cube has a lot of pieces:

Left: Mastermorphix; Right: Brickermorphix |
The original "Pyramorphix" was a Tetrahedral Shapemod of a 3×3×3 Cube. A set of four corners is shaved down to a small triangle, along with the adjacent edge pieces. The other set of four corners is elongated together with six face diagonals and the adjacent edge pieces to make a tetrahedral outline with flat faces. Later, the shape was rounded to make the puzzle more compact. This variant was called "Mastermorphix". There is also a Stickermod for a regular 3×3×3 Cube, called "Four Colors Cube", but this is a slightly different puzzle.
Both shape modifications have four single-colored symmetrical corner pieces, where the orientation is not determined. They also create four sets of three identical edge pieces, where the placement within each set is not determined. However, the cubic stickermod version has symmetrical edge pieces, so the orientation of the edge pieces on a Four Colors Cube is not determined. But the Pyramorphix and Mastermorphix create asymetrical edge pieces, so the orientation of the edge pieces is determined by their shape.
This Brickermod version of the Morphix Puzzle has two different levels, with a level change on the edge pieces. Therefore, the orientation of the edge pieces is determined in a similar way as for the original Morphix puzzles. Because the Tiles are not available with triangular shape, a neutral black tetrahedral grid is used along six face diagonals.

Brickermorphix, V2 |
This is my second take on the Pyramorphix/Mastermorphix.
My initial Brickermorphix fulfilled the minimum requirement of creating orientation for the edge piececs, but it had a minimum slope.
The Brickermod grid of 6×6 allows six different levels along diagonals from a corner stud to a face diagonal.
The brickermod is very demanding in terms of tiles and build time. A total of 552 pieces were used in the build shown here. Underneath the final tiles, a total of 660 plate units is required to build the cascade.
To save tiles and time, a low black slope of 2×2 plates was used. That means
two layers of plates along the face diagonals, and one layer of plates on
the adjacent diagonals. That's 2*3+2+2 = 10 plates on each face, a total of 60 black 2×2 plates.
The remaining height on the face diagonal is created using three 1×1 plates.
These are 6*3*6 = 108 in total.
These could be replaced by one 1×1 bricks, but with plates, it creates an overall layered look.
You could use more black plates, but then the colored faces would look less colored,
due to black peeking out.
When the black level is completed, the colors are built up. There are three identical segments to build for each color: Two 2×2 plates are required on top of the two black plates. That makes a total of six 2×2 plates of each color. Next, three 2×2 corner L plates are attached on each segment. That's nine of each color. These L-plates could be replaced by one 1×2 and one 1×1 plate, or simply three 1×1 plates. But that would reduce the overall stability. The last step to complete the foundation is to add nine 1×1 plates on each segment, three stacks of two and three single ones. That's a total of 27 of each color.
To finish the slope, 15 1×1 round quarter tiles have to be attached on each segment, a total of 45 of each color.

Left: Mirror Cube, White; Right: Brickermod Pseudo Mirror Cube |
The Mirror Cube is another Classic. The name was chosen because the original two designs had shiny gold or solver stickers. The Mirror Cube is not determined by color, but by layer thickness. The original design was to add and remove the same amount of 2mm, 6mm or 10mm from opposite faces. This creates levels in 4mm increments, which is enough for eyeballing whether a piece could match.
For the Brickermod, the principle was modified to keep it simple. All cubie faces are plated, the different heights are achieved by addin none up to five plates. That means the highest extension is equal to two brick heights. Because the design differs from the original Mirror Cube design, the Brickermod Mirror Cube is a new challenge.
The Brickermod Pseudo Mirror Cube requires a lot of pieces, but very common ones:
