ExpressCard 34 PCIe x1 CF Adapter

The previously availble ExpressCard 34 CF adapter only used the USB 2.0 link of the ExpressCard interface. These readers already used the UDMA enabled xSil 251 controller by OnSpec Inc., but current CF cards allow higher data rates that exceed the throughput of USB 2.0.

The new PCIe x1 ExpressCard 34 CF adapter is manufactured by  » didigo  (formerly known as Carry Computer) as model "DR25" and is available through importers/resellers using different brand and/or model names. The visual difference between the USB 2.0 model and the PCIe model is the shape extruding CF slot: The PCIe model uses a more rounded shape while the USB model uses a straight shape. Photos will be added later.

The adapter identifies as PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2368 and therefore most likely uses the JMicron Technologies JMB368 1-lane PCI Express to 1-port PATA controller. On Windows XP, the adapter shows up in the section PCMCIA and Flash memory devices, the media in the section Disk drives as JMCR CF SCSI Disk Device.

Important note: As with most PATA controllers, the adapter does not support the CF modes PIO-5 or PIO-6, so these cards will run in the slower PIO-4 mode limited to about 15.2MB/s.

Results from regular tests are already available at the  Express/34 PCIe CF Adapter  page, benchmark results showing the maximum performance will be added later.
